چکیده

A numerical code that simulates combustion phenomena occurring in a solid rocket motor is developed in this study using a preconditioning algorithm. A quasi-steady-combustion process was analyzed for a composite material in a submerged nozzle. The governing equations were solved using a dual-time stepping method combined with a finite volumemethod. Themass flux and pressure in the cell face were evaluated using the advective upwind splitting method scheme. The turbulence model uses a two-equation model combined with a turbulence closure model. The geometric conservation law is used to simulate transient propellant surface regression. The numerical results for solid rocket combustion were compared with experimental results with a composite propellant. The calculated pressure variation in the combustion chamber is in good agreement with the measured results.

One Dimensional Internal Ballistics Simulation of Solid Rocket Motor

An internal ballistics model has been developed for performance prediction of a solid propellant rocket motor. In this model a 1-D unsteady Euler equation with source terms is considered. The flow is assumed as a non-reacting mixture of perfect gases with space and time varying thermo physical properties. The governing equations in the combustion chamber are solved numerically by using the Steg...

بررسی و شبیه سازی اثرات شتاب چرخشی و طولی بر بالستیک داخلی راکت سوخت جامد

In this study, effects of longitudinal and rotational accelerations on the Internal Ballistic Solid Propellant Rocket are investigated. First, a quasi one-dimensional flow is considered to drive governing equations. By assuming semi- permanent flow and neglecting heat transfer through the walls, at each time increment the governing equations are integrated along the length of motor. Then, using...

Scale Effects on Quasi-Steady Solid Rocket Internal Ballistic Behaviour

The ability to predict with some accuracy a given solid rocket motor’s performance before undertaking one or several costly experimental test firings is important. On the numerical prediction side, as various component models evolve, their incorporation into an overall internal ballistics simulation program allows for new motor firing simulations to take place, which in turn allows for updated ...

Scale Effects on Solid Rocket Combustion Instability Behaviour

The ability to understand and predict the expected internal behaviour of a given solid-propellant rocket motor under transient conditions is important. Research towards predicting and quantifying undesirable transient axial combustion instability symptoms necessitates a comprehensive numerical model for internal ballistic simulation under dynamic flow and combustion conditions. A numerical mode...

Unsteady Ballistic Code for Performance Prediction of Solid Propellant Rocket Engines

Solid Propellant Rockets (SPRs) by their very nature embody in their chemical properties and geometry the whole history of grain combustion from ignition to burnout. Thus, the development of robust and reliable ballistic codes for accurate prediction of SPR performance is critical for their cost-effective utilization in space propulsion applications, especially in the case of launch vehicle boo...
